## Executive Summary

Microsoft Purview is Microsoft's data-security and governance suite, built into Microsoft 365. It discovers sensitive data, applies data loss prevention policies, and since December 2024 governs data moving through Microsoft 365 Copilot and other AI tools. Its durable advantage is mechanical: Microsoft puts sensitivity labels inside the content itself, so protection travels with a file an AI tool later reads. EY runs it across its global organization and IDC named Microsoft a Leader for AI governance, while independent reviewers on Gartner Peer Insights fault missing basic features and uneven support. Microsoft's DSPM documentation claims coverage of Google Cloud, Snowflake, and Databricks, while Gigantics, a competing vendor, argues its value degrades outside Microsoft.
